Washington DC, is a good place to work and live

Currently, Washington, DC is the best place in the country to work.  For every job there are only 2 applicants.  In other cities, like Detroit, there are 21 people applying for every job.  This is a sign of a solid marketplace.
One other statistic:  for fiscal year 2009 the estimated property, deed recordation and transfer tax revenues total approximately 34.7% of the general fund and local source revenue for the City.   For DC, the real estate industry is the anchor for tax revenue.
